Product ingredients

Rooibos

Also known as red bush, Rooibos is an indigenous plant of the Cape coastal mountains South Africa.  It is still harvested by hand and purified naturally in the sun.  Known for its unique health benefits, Rooibos contains a variety of antioxidant properties, some of which are entirely exclusive to it.  Vitamin C, zinc, manganese, alpha hydroxy (great for skin), magnesium, copper, iron, potassium and calcium are just some of the naturalminerals which make Rooibos so beneficial to wellbeing.  The flavanoid asphalatin (potent antioxidant within the Rooibos tea) is well known to fight aging as well as being very soothing to skin and therefore an ideal ingredient for use across our Organic at Heart range.

Frankincense

Tapped from the very scraggly bowellia tree by slashing through the bark and allowing the exuded resin to bleed out and harden, Frankincense oil has been used by many ancient cultures for its intense healing properties as well as for religious traditions.  Frankincense has numerous benefits - it is an excellent skin tonic - ideal for blemished skin - it has a unique ability to return dry or oily skin back to a normal healthy state. It is also used widely in skin preparations for people who may be prone to adverse skin conditions.

Shea Butter

A natural fat extracted from the fruit of the shea (karate) tree, then crushed and boiled to make an intense moisturiser and emollient, the skin benefits of shea butter are vast.  Containing vitamins A, E and F, it is particularly helpful in soothing and rejuvenating dry, damaged and slackened skin.  It has a very high percentage of unsaponifiables which means unlike many other oils it can penetrate the skin easily and deeply where it can work effectively without clogging the pores on the skin surface.  Shea butter has been clinically shown to help with many types of blemished skin.  It is fantastic for stretch marks and it also contains its own natural sunscreen although the SPF level varies between batches (and therefore should not be used alone as sunscreen).

Aloe Vera

Obtained from a perennial shrub belonging to the lily family, aloe vera gel is extracted from the stiff green leaves.  It's packed with multi vitamins, enzymes, minerals, salycic acid to name but a few and is a truly remarkable ingredient with many health benefits.  For skin, aloe vera’s soothing and intensely moisturising activity is most well known.

Rosehip Seed Oil

This is a pressed seed oil, extracted from the seeds of the rose bushes which grow wild in the Southern Andes.  Very high in vitamin A and essential fatty acids (omega 3 and omega 6), rosehip is an ideal addition to any skin conditioning preparation.
